Description
1991 Mercedes-Benz 250GD — fully refurbished, custom-built G-Wagen with turbodiesel power and modern upgrades. This 250GD underwent an extensive refurbishment in Europe before being imported to the United States in August 2023. The build was completed with a clear vision — combining the rugged, military-inspired roots of the G-Class with modern performance, comfort, and aggressive styling. At the core of the build is a replacement 2.9-liter turbodiesel inline-five, upgraded with a BMW 335d-sourced turbocharger, front-mount intercooler, and mechanical fuel injection pump. This setup delivers strong torque, improved efficiency, and the durability diesel G-Wagens are known for. Power is paired to a 5-speed automatic transmission, offering smoother drivability both on and off-road.The drivetrain was thoroughly gone through during the build, including rebuilt axles, refreshed suspension components, and a soda-blasted frame — ensuring a solid and reliable foundation. The truck retains its dual-range transfer case and locking front and rear differentials, giving it true off-road capability in any terrain.Finished in a striking matte gray, the exterior has been completely refinished and paired with functional upgrades that enhance both appearance and performance. Features include a brush guard, Warn winch, air-intake snorkel, power-retractable side steps, and a black canvas soft top — giving the truck a purposeful, expedition-ready look.It sits on 15-inch black-finished wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires, providing the grip and durability expected from a properly built off-road vehicle. Power steering and power-assisted brakes (front disc, rear drum) ensure the truck remains manageable and usable in a variety of driving conditions.Inside, the cabin has been completely reimagined. Recaro front seats and a contoured rear bench are upholstered in rich red leather, complemented by matching door panels. The dashboard has been wrapped in black Alcantara with red stitching, giving the interior a premium, custom feel while maintaining a rugged edge.Modern amenities include air conditioning, a touchscreen head unit, and a rear-view camera, blending vintage utility with everyday usability. The gauge cluster has been updated with a replacement 80-mph speedometer, boost gauge, and auxiliary readouts. The digital odometer currently shows 265 miles since the build, with total mileage unknown.Originally developed as a military vehicle, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class (Gel’ndewagen) earned its reputation through unmatched durability and off-road capability. Early diesel-powered models like the 250GD are especially valued for their simplicity and longevity — and when combined with upgrades like this, they become highly versatile and unique builds.
